Wudang Wushu Association Melbourne (WWAM)

The Wudang Wushu Australia, Melbourne Promotion Centre Inc (WWAM for short), is a new organisation that was established in 2025. It was formed in response to a growing interest in Wudang style Tai Chi forms. There was also a desire from a growing number of students to participate in international competition - both to improve their performance and also to have a rich cross-cultural experience. WWAM, on accreditation by the the Chinese parent association, will provide a pathway for our members to directly access competition in China. In addition, our accreditation with the Chinese parent association creates opportunities for Wudang Masters to provide expert training to students in Australia.

WWAM is at the forefront of promoting Wudang style Tai Chi and Qi Gong in Australia. Based in Melbourne, the Association supports the promotion of this style that originates from the mountainous region around Wudang in central China. Drawn from their original martial arts applications, the forms were developed and practised for many centuries by the monks who have lived, and continue to live in the Daoist temples of the Wudang mountains. Interested students can visit the temples today.

The Wudang style has recently enjoyed a revival in China, as important historical and cultural practices are being re-discovered after some upheavals that took place in the previous century. This revival is welcomed in Australia, and the Association looks forward to strengthening the educational and cultural ties with the Chinese practitioners through the Wudang Wushu Association and participation in the Wudang International Fellowship Competition.
